Few brands have the uniqueness of Buick, a landmark of the American automotive industry for well over a century. Since its inception, Buick has continued to reign supreme in providing drivers with the attributes of a luxury vehicle at a price the average consumer can afford. As the SUV continues its rise in popularity, the competition within this market segment greatly increases with each passing year; thus, with more and more high-end luxury brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even Lamborghini crafting their own versions of the SUV—with a keen emphasis on prestige and sophistication—Buick certainly has its work cut out for them...

Fortunately, the red-white-and-blue brand had already been hard at work to raise the bar, recently unveiling its newest nameplate, the 2024 Buick Envista. With an exterior design of a coupe, the stylish interior of a high-end luxury vehicle, and a powertrain that's just as economical as its starting MSRP, Buick has once again brought consumers a vehicle that allows them to experience the finer things in life without breaking the bank. Today, we offer a unique look at the latest addition to the Buick lineup and illustrate how, once again, the mold has been broken for the benefit of the average driver.

  • Performance

While the Buick Envista has aspirations to go up against the high-end offerings that come to us from across the Atlantic, it's also meant to prove its worth as a vehicle beneficial for the average consumer. Is this a feasible goal? After all, consumer-friendly and sophisticated luxury are seldom interspersed with one another when it comes to the intricate design of a vehicle. Well, with its starting MSRP of only $23,495, Buick makes the Envista more accessible than much of its competition.[a] And many consumers looking to get more for their money will be quite pleased once they look under the hood.

Powered by a turbocharged 1.2L three-cylinder engine, there's plenty of kick with an estimated 136 hp and the prospective capability to generate 163 lb-ft of torque. According to Buick, a major advantage of this engine is its lighter weight due to its use of fewer parts in production. This new featherweight dynamo is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission to enhance its capabilities; while front-wheel drive (FWD) is the sole drivetrain option, all of these attributes provide the new Buick with an economical fuel rating that will be undoubtedly appealing. The Envista is slated to have an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway, for a 30 MPG combined valuation.

While the Envista will be a compact crossover, Buick has gone to great lengths to bring its handling capabilities more in line with a coupe. Its longer wheelbase and customized suspension will provide a comfortable and capable ride that will allow drivers to navigate the city limits relatively easily. An available set of 19-inch wheels will give this newest Buick a regal appearance to coincide with its adaptable driving abilities.

  • Interior

The interior plays a significant role in what attracts buyers to the world of luxury automobiles. After all, having an effective powertrain is one thing, but people typically gravitate toward luxury vehicles for their lavish accommodations. Indulgent comfort and refined, plentiful amenities are what separates the posh from the practical—and the 2024 Buick Envista provides both in one generous package.

From the moment you open the driver's side door and take a seat, you'll feel like you're not just in the lap of luxury but behind the wheel of a high-end motorcar. The design of the Envista makes the important items stand out, such as the standard 11.0-inch infotainment screen, which is nestled perfectly within the dashboard and adjacent to an 8.0-inch digital instrument display. The latest in tactile and telecom software will provide a user-friendly experience that enhances the feeling of refinement.

Plenty of other design features show how much attention to detail Buick placed in its latest offering, from the chrome gear shifter to the slimmed-down HVAC vents—the small touches go a long way in providing drivers with a memorable experience. There will also be plenty of practical features that one would assume any SUV to have, especially one that's a proud member of the GM family. There's spacious seating with plenty of legroom, and—for those extracurriculars, errands, or extended trips—you'll have more than enough storage at your disposal with 42 cu.ft. of cargo space, which more than doubles the average trunk size of a four-door sedan and allows you to be practical when the situation calls for it.

Further refined details elevate the experience in the higher trims of the 2024 Buick Envista, such as the embroidered logos, colored stitching, and interior-matched accents you'll find in your seating. These higher trims may also have a power moonroof as standard or available, which pours in radiant sunshine or expands your view of the night sky. The most pleasing feature is the QuietTuning technology employed throughout the cabin, which shuts out the ambient droning of the wind, road, and passing cars, converting your cabin into an oasis on the move.

  • Safety

A blue 2024 Buick Envista is shown from above on a brick lot.

The two most apparent aspects of what makes the 2024 Buick Envista such an attractive choice are its powertrain, which has exceptional fuel economy, and its interior, which permits the average consumer to bask in the lap of luxury at an affordable cost. Now, we turn our attention to the most important aspect of any vehicle you purchase, and one that doesn't make itself readily apparent: safety.

Since its inception, GM has always strived to provide its drivers with vehicles and technology that allow them to have complete peace of mind while they're on the road. As is to be expected, this tradition will continue into the 2024 model year. Buick has already announced that the Envista will have a wide variety of standard and available safety and driver assistance features to enhance your driving experience and afford you oversight during your travels.

Thanks to the standardized Buick Driver Confidence suite of driver assistance tools, all models will include Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, and an HD Rear Vision Camera.

The Following Distance Indicator uses sensor technology to monitor the speed of the vehicle ahead of you and detect if it is slowing or coming to an abrupt stop. Forward Collision Alert will inform you if these same sensors predict that you are soon to make contact with an object or vehicle in your path, and Automatic Emergency Braking will engage if your reaction is not quick enough, electronically initiating a stop in the hopes of avoiding—or at least lessening—an impact.

One of the first things we learn as a driver is the importance of staying in our lane; should you become distracted or begin an unguided merge without using your turn indicator, Lane Keep Assist and Departure Warning will gently nudge your steering wheel to keep you within your lane, while also providing visual and audio cues to alert you to your straying. While at low speeds, Front Pedestrian Braking will alert you if an object begins to enter your path from the side.

The Rear Vision Camera is a high-definition visual aid for when you're in reverse, supplemental to your use of your mirrors; "backup cameras," as they're commonly called, are indispensable tools in our modern era. Lastly is the most clever of innovations—the IntelliBeam High Beam Assist—which will automatically activate your high beams in remote darkness but will likewise deactivate upon detection of oncoming traffic so as not to blind other drivers.

Higher trims may have additional driver assistance features as standards or available options. Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert helps you navigate traffic by informing you if another vehicle lurks in your hard-to-see areas. Rear Cross Traffic Alert is akin to Front Pedestrian Braking, informing you if something enters your path while you're in reverse. Adaptive Cruise Control will rely on the same sensors of the Following Distance Indicator to match your cruising speed to that of the car ahead of you, slowing down and speeding up as needed to maintain a safe distance. Another option is the Rainsense front wipers, which activate in precipitative conditions.
