When you first see the Hummer EV for sale, you might wonder if it’s more of a stunt than a practical truck. But in fact, GMC didn’t turn its once-infamous gas-guzzler into an all-electric vehicle merely for poetic reasons. The Hummer’s bulky shape can accommodate an extra-large battery pack so you can reap excellent range, and its off-road capability is bolstered by electric power, which is better at providing high torque at low speeds than gas engines, making boulder crawling and other adventurous tasks easier.

Another great thing about the 2025 Hummer EV Pickup is that it’s a fully modernized version of the Hummer. Its electric powertrain is just one part of the equation; several other features make the new model more fun, clever, and practical than the old one. Today, we’re going to take a look at seven highlights that showcase how this nameplate is thriving in a new era of automotive technology.

#1. Watts to Freedom

When you’re driving around town day to day, you don’t need to unleash the full power of the Hummer EV. After all, you probably want to get as much range as possible for daily driving, so it makes sense to prioritize efficiency over maximum power most of the time. But for instances when you have access to a closed course or wide open space where it’s safe to get your thrills by summoning that extra oomph, GMC has you covered with the available Watts to Freedom feature.

Engage this, and the body of the Hummer EV will get low to the ground, and the motors will give it their all for a burst of speed that can take you from a standstill to 60 mph in about 3 seconds, which is beyond impressive for a vehicle this big and heavy.

#2. Extract Mode

If the Hummer EV Pickup can lower its height to give it a low center of gravity for Watts to Freedom, you’re probably wondering if it can raise its height as well. The answer is yes. The Hummer EV uses an adaptive air ride suspension system that can be adjusted depending on the surface you’re driving on or the obstacle you’re tackling.

If you come across a boulder, tree root, or stream while off-roading or a bit of debris on a regular road, you can activate Extract Mode to rise about six inches and drive right over it without issue.

#3. CrabWalk

Of course, not all obstacles can be surmounted with a six-inch lift. Sometimes, you need to be able to go around it. Doing that in tight spaces like parking lots and forested trails can be tricky and stressful unless you have the right tools up your sleeve, so the Hummer EV is equipped with 4-Wheel Steer, which can be used in two different ways to help you maneuver more precisely.

For tight turns, the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions, giving you a smaller turning radius so you can squeak by without a scrape. If you want to move diagonally, you can use the CrabWalk feature to instead turn the front and rear wheels in the same direction. You can switch between these modes and traditional steering, so you have the right tool for every scenario.

#4. Infinity Roof

For daily driving, it’s obviously nice to have a roof over your head, protecting you from the elements. But sometimes, it’s nice to get a more open-air experience and feel the wind in your hair. The Hummer EV Pickup lets you switch between the two setups with class-exclusive removable modular roof panels.

These panels come standard in an opaque color but are also available in a transparent variant called “sky panels,” which essentially act as a huge sunroof when in place. Where do you put the panels when you’re not using them? Ingeniously, they’re designed to fit perfectly in the front trunk, so you don’t have to leave them at home or worry about them jostling about in the truck’s bed.

#5. Super Cruise

Do you want to take advantage of the Hummer EV’s impressive range by heading out on a road trip? You can make long drives easy and comfortable by using GM’s Super Cruise feature, which was named the Best Hands-Free Driving Tech of 2025 by MotorTrend because of its carefully considered design.

Unlike Tesla’s “self-driving” feature, which has had its efficacy and safety called into question countless times since its debut, Super Cruise only works on compatible mapped roads. But don’t panic about that being too limiting, as there are hundreds of thousands of miles of compatible roads across the US and Canada, and more are being added to the system all the time. The system is also very good at handing control back to the driver when necessary, so you don’t space out and miss your cue on a long drive.

In addition to that balance between convenience and safety, Super Cruise also has many useful features. It can change lanes automatically to avoid slow drivers, returning to the lane of travel once it has gotten around. Perhaps most impressively, the system is designed to work with a trailer in tow so that you can take full advantage of the Hummer EV Pickup’s towing capacity (up to 12,000 lbs on a properly equipped model). Super Cruise provides a quality hands-free driving experience so you can spare your attention on monotonous stretches of highway and feel ready when it’s time to tackle more difficult situations.

#6. UltraVision

When you drive any big vehicle, you need to worry about visibility. Most trucks make it hard to see low-lying obstacles close to you, which can be dangerous for you as a driver and for the people around you. Luckily, the Hummer EV has a solution: up to 18 available camera views. You can use the large infotainment screen to view multiple angles at once, giving you a clear idea of what’s going on in the surrounding area in real time.

There’s even a top-down 360-degree view that can come in handy when parking in tight spots. Waterproof underbody front- and rear-facing cameras are especially nice when off-roading, allowing you to see the terrain underfoot in real time from the comfort of the cabin.

#7. MultiPro Tailgate

The Hummer EV Pickup comes standard with GMC’s famous MultiPro tailgate. This clever design can be used in a variety of ways, so you can make the most of it whether you’re doing a DIY project, camping, or tailgating. Basically, there’s an inner gate that can be moved independently of the main gate. Leave this gate alone, and the tailgate can open and close like normal, but move it around, and you can get a variety of different functions.

The inner gate can drop down to carve out space in the main gate, letting you get closer to the cargo area so you can reach more without climbing up. If you do need to climb up, you can fold the inner gate into a full-width step that makes for easy access and can also act as a footrest during tailgate parties. While the main gate is up, you can fold the inner gate up to create a tall work surface that’s more comfortable to use than the bed of the truck.

You can also use the inner gate to act as a stop for extra-long cargo or a platform for creating two tiers of cargo storage. Once you get used to this modular functionality, you’ll never want to go back to an old-fashioned tailgate again.
