If you are shopping for an SUV, you will be faced with a lot of options. These days, SUVs run the gamut in terms of size, ranging from small, almost sedan-like subcompacts to large models that have quite a bit of interior real estate. If what you are after is in that latter category, the 2025 GMC Yukon XL is an excellent choice. While the regular Yukon is plenty big, when you get the XL version (which stands for “extended length”), you get even more space to enjoy. Here, you will learn all the details about this full-size SUV and how it will meet your needs.

Tremendous Power

The Yukon XL is an extremely muscular vehicle. If you enjoy nothing more than effortlessly passing slower Atlanta traffic, you will love what this vehicle can do. You will have three engine options to pick from, and they are all brawny. The base is a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. If you want to take those numbers up quite a bit, you can opt for the 6.2-liter V8 that delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, you can choose a powerful diesel engine: a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel inline-six that generates 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. All three of these engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, too, but you can opt for four-wheel drive.

Outstanding Performance

There is no getting around the fact that the 2025 Yukon XL is a big vehicle. This is why you may be pleasantly surprised with its great drivability. It never feels unruly or too large to manage, even through sharp turns and curves. Plus, thanks to its independent rear suspension, this SUV always provides a smooth ride.

If you are an avid off-roader, you will want to choose the AT4 trim. This outfit comes with all sorts of goodies that will make your excursions a delight, including four-wheel drive, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a two-speed transfer case. It also comes with Hill Descent Control, a heavy-duty air filter, and front recovery hooks. In addition, you can add an air suspension that will increase ground clearance by two inches.

Excellent Towing Ability

If you will need your Yukon XL for towing purposes (maybe to bring some ATVs or a camper on your outdoor adventures), it will not disappoint. While models equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 or 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel engine can tow over 8,100 lbs, that climbs to 8,400 lbs with the base 5.3-liter V8. To make towing easier, you can outfit your vehicle with a number of features, including one aimed at helping to prevent jackknifing.

The blind zone steering aid is another, and this—accounting for however long the trailer may be—will alert you with a firm movement of the steering wheel if there are any vehicles in your blind spots. You can also get a transparent trailer view, which basically lets you see through your trailer by removing it virtually from the camera view.

Massive Interior Space

As the “XL” implies, you are going to find a substantial amount of room inside this Yukon. It has three spacious rows and offers ample headroom and legroom for everybody, no matter where they sit. If you go with the standard setup of a bench seat for the second row, it can fit up to eight people. Swapping that out for captain’s chairs will lower the passenger capacity to seven.

Cargo space is also generous, and you will get 41.5 cu.ft. behind the third row, 93.6 cu.ft. when it is folded, and a total of 144.7 cu.ft. with all rear seats down. A manual liftgate comes standard, but you can exchange that for a hands-free power liftgate.

Many Comfort Amenities

The cabin of the Yukon XL isn’t just huge; it has also been designed to keep everybody comfortable. The seats are supportive and come with cloth upholstery. The ones in the front row also have power adjustments. If you want your SUV to be a bit more luxurious, you can add a variety of features, including leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, massaging front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

You can also get power-folding captain’s chairs for the second row, heated second-row outboard seats, and a heated and power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.

State-of-the-Art Tech

Great ruggedness, comfort, and the latest tech? Yes, the Yukon XL checks all the boxes. You are going to love the infotainment system, as the big 16.8-inch touchscreen has easy-to-navigate menus and responds quickly to inputs. There are also physical controls to make things easier when driving. Google Built-In is included, so you will always know where you are going with Google Maps, and you’ll have Google Assistant at your beck and call.

Every Yukon XL also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, six USB ports, and satellite radio. Bluetooth, two 120-volt power outlets, remote start, and push-button start are standard as well. Upgrades include a 22-speaker Bose sound system (with some speakers in the headrest of the second-row seats), wireless device charging pads, a universal garage door opener, and a rear-seat dual-screen entertainment system. You can even add an eight-inch touchscreen for the second row so rear passengers can make adjustments to their climate settings.

Driver Assistance Tools

So far, the GMC Yukon XL shines in all areas, but what about safety? Well, here, too, it proves to be fantastic. It comes with an assortment of systems that will make you feel assured no matter where the road takes you. These include a forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking, wherein your SUV will monitor the road in front and warn you of a possible crash with a vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist; it can also apply the brakes if you do not respond quickly enough. With rear cross-traffic braking, your Yukon can bring itself to a stop to prevent a collision while backing up.

If you get distracted behind the wheel and start drifting, you will receive a lane departure warning; with the lane-keeping aid, your vehicle can nudge itself back into its lane. Adaptive cruise control is also standard; this will automatically adjust your speed if the car in front slows down, and it’ll return you to your pre-set limit if that vehicle speeds up. Other standard features include automatic parking assist, traffic sign recognition, intersection automatic emergency braking, and a safety alert seat.
