If you’re looking for an upscale SUV that’s nimble and stylish, the 2025 Buick Encore GX is a great choice. There’s plenty to love about this subcompact model. Its quiet cabin makes it easy to listen to music and converse with your friends and family, its efficient engine options help you avoid constant trips to the gas station, and its small size makes parallel parking a breeze. It’s also available with either front- or all-wheel drive, so you can decide whether to put efficiency at the top of your priorities or opt for extra traction so you can drive with confidence on rainy days and even during snowy weather.

Overall, the Encore GX is a versatile SUV that’s perfect for just about any drive, from commutes to errands to road trips. One thing that’s nice to have on any drive is a range of tech features; modern automotive technology can help you stay connected, entertained, and safe wherever you go. So today, we’re going to take a look at the tech features on the Buick Encore GX—both the ones that come standard across the lineup and those that you’ll need to upgrade for if you want to have them at your disposal.

Infotainment

No matter which trim you choose, you’ll be getting a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a large 11-inch color touchscreen on the dashboard and an 8-inch color Driver Information Center behind the wheel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you connect your smartphone to the Encore GX’s interface without digging around for a cable, so you can make calls, get navigation, and stream music from your phone using voice commands and physical controls built into the steering wheel, allowing you to stay focused on driving and keep your eyes on the road. You can connect up to two phones at a time, too, so you and a passenger can both use the system.

Connectivity

The Encore GX comes standard with four USB ports in the center console: two Type-A and two Type-C. Between these, you should be able to charge all of your devices. The four ports are split between the front and back of the center console—one Type-A and one Type-C for each row of seating; this makes it easy for everyone to keep their devices powered up, whether they’re riding up front or in the back. On the Avenir trim, you’ll also get a traditional power outlet on the back of the console, allowing backseat passengers to use laptops or other devices that can’t be charged with a USB port. If you want to be able to go cable-free, you’ll be happy to hear that a wireless smartphone charging pad is an available upgrade that you can add to any trim level for even more convenience.

Protection

The vast majority of safety features offered on the Encore GX come standard across all trim levels, so you don’t have to worry about cutting corners on important tech features by choosing one of the more affordable trims. These standard features include a variety of driver assistance tech that can help you stay aware of your surroundings and avoid danger out on the road.

Automatic emergency braking and front pedestrian braking react if you get too close to a forward obstacle, whereas lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and side blind zone alert keep track of traffic on either side of your vehicle. When you’re backing up, you can use the HD rear camera to get a clear picture of what’s behind you, while rear cross-traffic alert will warn you of vehicles coming from either side. At night, IntelliBeam turns your brights on and off automatically, reacting to lighting conditions and traffic around you.

Parents will be glad to know that there are also features designed with kids in mind. The rear seat reminder keeps track of whether the rear doors were opened when you started the car; if they were, you’ll get a reminder at the end of your trip to check the back seat. Once your kids grow up and are able to start learning to drive for themselves, you’ll be able to use the Teen Driver mode to coach them, keep track of their progress, and prevent them from turning off certain safety features.

If you want every single safety feature possible, there are two options you’ll want to keep an eye out for. Rear park assist uses additional sensors to help you back up more safely, while adaptive cruise control can react to changes in traffic, slowing down with the vehicle in front of you and then speeding back up to the set speed when the coast is clear. All Encore GXs come standard with basic cruise control; it’s only the advanced version that requires an upgrade to get. Finally, HD Surround Vision gives you a 360-degree view of the area around your vehicle, which can come in handy when navigating in tight spaces.

Assistance

All trims of the Encore GX come standard with OnStar Basics, allowing you to use connected features that make driving even more comfortable and convenient. Remote commands let you start the vehicle and lock or unlock the doors using an app on your smartphone; this means you can get the climate control started before you get to your car, so it will be a comfortable temperature right off the bat. OnStar Basics also includes a built-in voice assistant you can use while on-the-go and real-time traffic and navigation services to help you get around. If the system senses that you’ve been in an accident, it can also send out an automatic crash response so you can rest assured that help will be on the way.

Packages

If you’re interested in getting some of the tech features that don’t come standard, you’ll want to take a look at the available technology packages you can add to your Encore GX. If you’re interested in the Preferred or Sport Touring trims, you can add the Advanced Technology Package to get adaptive cruise control, rear park assist, HD surround vision, and a wireless charging pad. For the Avenir trim, you can select the Avenir Technology Package to get all of those features plus the rear camera mirror, which lets you switch between a traditional rearview mirror and a similar camera view that provides a wider angle and can’t be obstructed by bulky cargo or tall backseat passengers. A washer keeps the lens in the back clean, even if you’re driving in a dusty or muddy area.

The Avenir

As the top-tier trim, the Avenir offers a few exclusive standard features that aren’t available in the rest of the lineup. An auto-dimming rearview mirror prevents glare from distracting you during morning or evening driving. Driver memory settings make it easy to share your vehicle with a partner or family member, even if you’re very different heights, because you can save the exact position you like your seat in and return to it with the presence of your key fob. A built-in universal home remote lets you program buttons in the cabin to open a garage door or gate, so you don’t have to rely on a remote that runs on a small and easy-to-drain battery.
