Exploring the 2026 Terrain’s Trims

The 2026 GMC Terrain, which is currently in its third generation, made its debut in 2010. For the new model year, two trims have entered the picture, giving you more options to consider than the previous year. Those new trims are the AT4, which is off-road-focused, and the Denali, offering luxurious materials and sophisticated styling. With the addition of these trims, it’s easier than ever to find the right Terrain for your driving needs. Here’s a closer look at these and the entry-level Elevation…

The Elevation

First and foremost, the Elevation trim is the only Terrain offered in both front- and all-wheel drive. It is also the base trim level. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s lacking in features. Rather, some of the available equipment for the Elevation trim includes things like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 15-inch Premium GMC Infotainment system, and an 11-inch driver information center. You can also opt for enhanced exterior styling, which includes options such as a Sterling Metallic roof or panoramic power sunroof.

The Elevation trim is equipped with a 1.5L four-cylinder engine that makes up to 175 hp regardless of your drivetrain; however, opting for all-wheel drive gives you increased torque (203 lb-ft as opposed to 184 lb-ft) and towing capabilities of 1,500 lbs (as opposed to 800 lbs). It’s also worth mentioning that the all-wheel drive is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while a continuous variable transmission (CVT) comes standard with the front-wheel drivetrain. Along with this, the Elevation trim also gives you added control thanks to its Drive Mode Selector. For front-wheel-drive models, this means better performance tailoring, while all-wheel-drive models add an off-road mode.

A Driver Convenience Package can be added to the Elevation trim, which provides you with a remote start, heated front seats and steering wheel, driver express up/down windows, and more. Additionally, the 15-inch touchscreen display gives you easy access to the apps you use most when connected to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, as well as natural voice recognition and SiriusXM. Last but not least, Google Built-In makes it easier than ever before to get the information you need as you travel from point A to point B, particularly when pairing with an OnStar subscription since the vehicle is Wi-Fi hotspot-capable.

Finally, the Elevation trim isn’t lacking when it comes to safety features. You will find things like Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Park Assist, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Lane Keeping Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and much more. All these systems work to keep you and your passengers safer on the road.

The AT4

As mentioned, the AT4 trim is new for the Terrain. However, other models in the GMC lineup have had an AT4 trim for a while now. In fact, the first AT4 trim was introduced in 2019 on the Sierra 1500. Regarding the 2026 Terrain, the AT4 trim includes everything you will find on the Elevation with a few rugged enhancements. For instance, rather than a manual liftgate, the AT4 gives you a helping hand by offering an AutoSense power liftgate. There is also a Trailering Package, which includes a trailer hitch and Hitch Guidance with Hitch View. This package is standard on both the AT4 and the Denali trim. Other highlights of the 2026 Terrain AT4 include roof-mounted side rails, the same available panoramic power sunroof offered on the Elevation trim, Google Built-In, and an available Ebony Twilight Metallic Roof for a two-toned look.

To provide you with even more amenities, you can choose an AT4 trim that is equipped with the Convenience Package II. This package boosts comfort levels during the drive thanks to the eight-way power driver seat adjuster, two-way power lumbar support, and dual-zone automatic climate control. You’ll also enjoy things like Rainsense intermittent front wipers, a wireless charging pad, and a cabin humidity and windshield sensor. Additionally, the Driver Convenience Package mentioned earlier can be added to the AT4.

On the interior of the AT4 trim, you will find that it provides you with the same 15-inch GMC Premium Infotainment System as the Elevation trim. Also, what’s under the hood is the same; in fact, each of the three trims is equipped with the same 1.5L four-cylinder engine, but since the AT4 has standard all-wheel drive, you can expect higher torque and a maximum trailering capacity of 1,500 lbs.

The Denali

Like the AT4 trim, the Denali trim can be found throughout the GMC lineup. This trim is the cream of the crop when it comes to sophistication and luxury. In addition to providing many of the same features found in the AT4 trim, the Denali takes things to the next level by offering ventilated driver and front passenger seats, a rear camera mirror that turns the rearview mirror into a more valuable tool while reversing, heated rear outboard seats, fog lamps, and HD Surround Vision.

You can find these features and more when opting for a Denali trim that is equipped with both the Convenience Package III and Technology II Packages. Of course, the Denali can also be equipped with the packages mentioned when reviewing the Elevation and AT4 trims. While the Denali’s interior features and layout look the same as the other two trims, certain elements set the Denali apart, such as premium materials and accents. On the outside, you can opt for 20-inch wheels and low-profile all-season tires to accompany the improved suspension found at this level.
